Custom Filter for Report Definition widget using a global filter widget for dashboard?

I am looking to create report widgets and use a global filter widget to display filtered data on the report widgets on the dashboard.

 

Without using the widget we have an article here

But i am looking for report widgets and global filter widgets. Any help or input will be great :)
