Adding Doc Variables and embedded excel objects into word templates/correspondence elements
- Is there a way to add 'doc variables' into word templates through Pega? I need the doc variables next to a few identifier fields thata re filled in from Pega case data in the word template so that our downstream applications can use the generated document for further processing.
- Is there a way to have an embedded excel object alongside Pega correspondence elements within the word document that is generated using Pega's word templates?
The below attachment shows an example of the document I am trying to generate from Pega. The table is an embedded excel work object and also has a doc variable associated with it.The 'File#' field has a doc variable associated with it as well.Is it possible to create such a template and generate with Pega case details.
When I try, I am either able to show the doc variable or the correpondence element but not both.

Below are the steps:
- Create a word template in Pega with the desired syntax.Download it and replace text with the below elements.
- I created a correspondence of type 'mail' and replaced the text in my word template with the pega element using the syntax {pega:insert corr = TESTRULE}
- I added the excel element using the syntax {EMBED Excel.Sheet.8} which is the name of my embedded excel object.
- At any point before or after either of these elements, you can also insert a doc variable.This can be done via Word features-->Insert-->Quick Parts-->Field-->choose 'docvariable' in the field names and insert it any any place in the document.
- If you save this word template and try to generate a letter in the format, the pega correspondance elements do not get generated if any of the other 2 elements are present before it.But if I dont have the pega element in my template, the excel object is generated fine.Same with the Pega correspondance element.It gets generated if the excel object is not in the template. Basically, the one that is specified first is rendered correctly and the other element just shows up with the syntax(when you click ALT+F9).
I am unable to generate both types within the same template.

Assuming you are using the server side document generation(pzGenerateDocument RUF). Using the pega:insert corr or pega:reference tags you can insert the properties and dynamically get the values of those properties in the generated document.
Inserting rendered/expanded excel sheet is not possible in doc generation, you can include excel as an embedded object in the work document. To insert as embedded object, use below tag in correspondence rule
