For exceptional handling in SLA if we add Goal time and we have to add escalation action based on requirements suppose we are using an activity we have to handle exceptions in the activity.

Similarly, we can in a deadline and passed deadline

If you're triggering the Run Activity/Data transform during escalation events and configuring custom Activity/Data Transform rules then the Exception handling must be within the Custom rule. 

It would be great if you could provide more context to your question (if your question's context is different)?
