Advancing a case while constructing
Hi all,
Pega offers an approach to construct and refine forms as you go by running a sample case - asking "Would you like to work on this now?”
How does one advance such a dry run of the flow to the next step or stage, when you have only partially defined form (fields but no desicion logic), where the Submit does not yet work and the button for Other actions has an empty dropdown?
Please advise.

To get around this issue, Pega flows can be run in Draft mode. Draft mode allows you to diagram a flow without adding any of the rules that would be called, and can be enabled and disabled by clicking the button (
) on the toolbar for the flow rule.
Normally, each flow shape must reference an existing rule before the system allows you to save the flow. With draft mode, this behavior is not enforced, allowing you to focus on the design of the flow, rather than the logic needed to automate the management of work through the flow.
For example, you could add a decision shape to represent an automated decision, and not configure a decision rule to determine the correct outcome. With draft mode enabled, a user can select from the allowed outcomes (connectors attached to the decision shape) to determine the course of the case through the flow at run-time.
Draft mode also allows you to specify a flow action on a connector, even if you don't create the flow action and link it to a section. Without draft mode, the flow would generate an error and prevent you from saving the flow until you created the flow action.

As for the submit button, clicking Submit will always advance the case to the next step in the workflow - either the next shape in the flow, or to the flow for the next step in the Case Designer. So, as long as you add the correct shapes to your flow, and connect them in the proper order, the system can create, "process", and resolve a case.
