Hi Nagashree
Thank you for the question and interest in upgarding. I have moved your post to the correct forum 'Pega Upgrade Center' to get attention from right team. Someone from upgrate team will respond shortly to this.

Hi Nagashree,
Usually tolerance upgrades mean
- Infrastructure & PRPC rulebase along with industry solutions will be upgraded to Pega 7
- The application will be built-on Pega 7 and will work as-is prior to upgrade
- Changes/enhancements/fixes will be very specific to making the application work exactly as prior to upgrade
Compliance upgrades mean
- Adopt HTML5 standards and use of Out-of-the-box Pega 7 controls
- Convert old or legacy portals to new responsive portals
- Using new features and best practices like data pages and dynamic referencing wherever applicable
Thanks

Tolerence Upgrade : "as-is" prior to upgrade with or wtihout using Pega7 features
Compliance upgrade : change all controls and screens as per Pega7 features.

Hi ALL,
Please find below questions for upgrade from 6.x to 7.1.8.
1.When we upgrade our system with standard installation and after upgrade do we have any patch /plugin so that we can have Multitenancy.
2.If we upgrade our system with Multitenancy installation, do we need to enhance our schema ? What is difference b\w std. and Multitenancy with respect to schema?

Ashish,
Installation of a PRPC Multitenancy system is packaged as part of the standard 7.1 PRPC
installation or upgrade process for your application server/database platform combination.
No additional or special configuration is required beyond what is needed for a standard PRPC
install or upgrade. But once the system is setup as multi-tenant system, it cannot be reset to standard PRPC instance.
- Using commandline, you can set the property multitenant.system to true in setupdatabase.properties
- Using GUI, PRPC installer will prompt you to select whether its an ordinary or multi-tenant product

Hi Sudarshan,
Thanks for the info.
My few more questions are ,
1.can we do 7.1.8 upgrade with multitenant mode from pega 6.3 directly. or we need to upgrade it to 7.1.8 with std mode then again we need to upgrade it with multitenant mode?
Thanks ,

Hello @AshishS3004.
You can migrate from 6.3 directly to 7.1.8 multitenancy pega mode.
Corrected to accomodate below statement :
But the trick is we might not do it with an inplace upgrade. We might need to do it via the other approach of moving rulesets to latest version of the software. I will check this and come back.
Thanks,
Ashok

As per my understanding, one cannot upgrade from a non-multitenant system to a multitenant system and vice versa.
Are you able to see 'multitenant edition' checkbox when you launch Upgrade GUI?

As Ravi mentioned there is no upgrade path availble for existing 6.x applications to upgrade to Pega7 multitenant.
You can take R-A-P from 6.x system and deploy it in fresh install of Pega7 Multitenant system. So that that application will become one of the tenenat. However you can't cary forward the work which got created in 6.x (Non Multitenant) to Pega7 multitenant system.

Hi All,
let me tell you our conclusion on this after so much efforts and discussion with experts:
1.we can’t upgrade directly to Multi-tenant system from earlier versions of Pega and upgrade directly to Multi-tenant system from earlier versions of Pega.
2.multi-tenancy cannot be applied to a non multi-tenancy Application
3.we can initially upgrade the environment to Pega 7.1.8 using standard upgrade. You need to install a new system for Multitenant and you can export the application from the upgraded system and install the same on Multitenant system.
Hope everybody like it. :)

Perfect. in step3 you can't cary forward the work which got created in 6.x (Non Multitenant) to Pega7 multitenant system.

Addition to Dhevendra's comments -
Even if you carry forward the work objects to Pega7 multitenant system, they will go into Shared layer and will not be accessible to tenants.

That's true. There is no direct upgrade (in place). Thanks Dhev for the link.
Upgrade from a non-multitenant system to a multitenant system is possible but involves more effort. Nice discussion.
Thanks,
Ashok
