CPMC course exercise system problem with MAC
Hi,
I have enrolled to the CPMC course, but when i am trying to access the exercise system i am facing problems.
I have a mac, once i have downloaded the exercise system(ZIP file) the further recommended steps are to use the StuffIt expander. When i expand the ZIP file with StuffIt Expander, the "Server" folder which should contain the Virtual Machine is not present, all the other vmdx files and one vmx are extracted. Due to this i am not able to run the virtual machine. I have tried other archive expanders like "Unarchiver" with the same result.
Please help me resolve this issue.
Thanks

Chetan Anand,
I'm very sorry to hear you are having issues getting started with the Exercise System.
Since there are two courses, are you referring to the "Pega Decision Management Essentials (7.1)" or the "Pega Marketing Essentials (7.1)" course?

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the reply, I have tried both courses with the same result.

Hi Guru,
I have the paid version of VMware fusion which is recommended for mac, I do not wish to run the server from VMplayer through parallels because it takes up too much virtual memory.
In the extracted folder for the course "Pega Marketing Essentials (7.1)" there is only one vmx file "NBAM_ Essentials 7.1.vmx", when i try to open it through VMware fusion it throws a message "The file specified is not a virtual disk".
Please advice.
Thanks,

This article provides information about using VMware Workstation virtual machines in VMware Fusion.
Fusion and Workstation virtual machines are interchangeable. There is no need to use VMware vCenter Converter when moving a virtual machine between Workstation and Fusion. The virtual disk formats are the same and the virtual machines can be used in either program.
However, when moving a virtual machine between Fusion and Workstation or vice-versa, remember these points:

However, when moving a virtual machine between Fusion and Workstation or vice-versa, remember these points:
- Workstation virtual machines keep their files in folders, whereas Fusion virtual machines keep their files in a virtual machine bundle. Fusion can use the folders created by Workstation without issue, and Workstation will see the Fusion bundles as folders.
Note: To convert a Workstation virtual machine folder on your Mac to a bundle, add .vmwarevm to the virtual machine folder's name. For example, a Workstation virtual machine folder called Windows 7 would be a bundle on the Mac if it is renamed to Windows 7.vmwarevm.

Hi Marco,
I have tried adding the ".vmwarevm" to the folder, the folder name would be "NBAM_Essentials_7.1.vmwarevm".
It gives me the same error, saying it is not a virtual disk.
I have tried searching for a solution on multiple websites but to no avail.
Thanks,

Chetan,
I use my Mac exclusively here at Pega, so please do not mind my stepping in.
Use Keka to extract the vm archive: http://www.kekaosx.com/en/
The issue lies with the StuffIt and Unachiver apps. These apps do not fully support the compression algorithms we are using.
I have downloaded and tested the VM you are having trouble with and I, too, get the error "The file specified is not a virtual disk" when I extract the archive with StuffIt. When I extract it with Keka, it loads right up. I am using VMware Fusion as well.
As you first boot up the vm, you will be prompted to Upgrade the VM - do that.
Then, at the next prompt about whether you moved the VM or copied it, select the default "I copited it."
let me know how you get along.

Hi Eddie,
Thank You, that worked out very well.
As you said the issue was with the extracter apps.
Thank You everyone for your inputs.
