why does Pega use 9080 port while configuring Dev and test environments
For my client, Pega associates have set up the dev and test environment initially. And both test and dev environments are configured on 9080 port.Is there a specific reason why 9080 is used as opposed to 80 or 443 if SSL ?

I just went thru WAS documentation and 9080 is the default/standard HTTP Protocol Port for WAS.And 8443 for SSL/https.

There is no particular reason. Pega uses the port what application server uses.
In other words,the ports configured on the server are the ports that pega uses. Why the specific port is configured in your application server that you can check with your team.

Perfect. I hope you are clear now that the pega doesn't use any port as default/standard, it just uses the port what the application server uses. If your application server team update the port to some other available port then pega will start using the same.

9080 is not always default port in WAS, you can check available Ports in AboutThisProfile text file located in Appserver/log directory. For eg:
E:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\AppSrv02\logs\AboutThisProfile.txt
