Why does HTMLToPDF take so long to process?
HTMLToPDF takes 2 minutes to generate a simple report from a report definition. I've tried modifying the isClearCache and pyHTMLDisableProcessing parameters but they have no impact on performance.

Which version of Pega Plat are you using ?
Based on my research, the root cause of its slowness appears to trace back to the performance of the pd4ml library itself.
Can you try increasing JVM heap size? It should help.

You can try disabling the Application CSS passed so that styles loading time could be saved. This way also we can improve performance.

Per this article for 7.2.2 HFix-47820 and the updated pd4ml jar file resolves the issue.

Sorry, forgot the basic info: We're on Pega version 7.3.1 (PegaCRM 7.31). Thanks for the replies. I'll investigate whether there's a hotfix appropriate for my version.
