What is the maximum length of a Text property in PRPC ?
I have an HTTP Connector that is sending and retrieving XML, and I am worried about exceeding the max length of the Text property that holds the xml.
1. What are the limits on a Text property?
2. What options are there in PRPC, if I wish to have a longer string than this ?

Under the hood, it is a Java String so same limitations if any apply.
Pega 7 has the ability to have transient properties.

Hi Martin,
PRPC by default will not apply any limitation in the length of the text properties unless you specify it.
Hope you can use a text type property to hold long texts.

The underlying database may truncate your text beyond a certain length. One way to find out if this going to occur is to check the definition of the column that is used to store instances of the property.

The length of the property is governed by the fact - is it stored in an exposed column or in the BLOB. If it is an exposed column, we truncate the value to the length of the column but have the full value in the BLOB. There is no support for CLOB column type for long text yet in Pega platform so an exposed column is limited by the maximum length allowed by the database for a VARCHAR column.

Thanks for this, in my case the property is not exposed for reporting and so would be saved into the BLOB should I allow the work object to be committed. The property is used in a transient way, so it will be present on the Clipboard. I can make sure I 'Remove' the property using a DT after I am finished with it and the XML has been parsed, so it does not get persisted to the database.
I understand then, that there are no restrictions as to length? I must allow for 10k or so. Or, should I write Java code to use a StringBuffer, or something like that?
