What is hot failover vs cold failover

Hi

What is hot failover vs cold failover.

What use does a hearbeat do in cold failover mode.

I have gone through several articles about the same in google. However could not understand the exact intent. In HA when we use hot vs cold.

In cold they say that the server does not receive timely updates. Then what's the use of it when the org has to wait for the server to be loaded with the latest data. Is this not affecting HA.
