View Attachment in new browser tab
Hi all
I would like to be able to default the view of my work attachments in a new browser tab. Currently the OOTBF calls Activity "DisplayAttachFile" this opens the Save File window prompt. I would like to simply open the attachment in a new browser tab without asking to download. Any ideas for a quick win?

You need to set the 'Content-Disposition' HTTP Header so that it is not set to 'attachment' :
see https://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec19.html
This header when set to 'attachment' will hint to the browser that it should trigger a download - rather than trying to 'inline' the attachment.
The Pega API :
com.pega.pegarules.pub.runtime.PublicAPI.sendFile(byteArray,pdfName,false,null,true);
Has a flag (it's the last argument "aSendForDownload") that controls this header.
So , you need to build your own 'downloader' Activity - that uses this API, with the last flag set to 'false' .

Hi John,
I am not able to achieve it. Would be great if you elaborate the steps which I have to modify in the HTML Fragment: openFileAttachment which calls the Work- DisplayAttachFile activity which is triggered to download the content. The doc (word) file gets downloaded when this activity is called by default.
P.s: we use Chrome as the default browser.

Thanks for your reply, I'll check for the solutions mentioned but is there something that I need to do with "DisplayAttachFile" Activity java code ?
I tried to set the Httpheader but cant figure out the syntax.

I haven't tried this but : DisplayAttachFile uses sendFile like this:
String sErrorMessage = tools.sendFile(objRefPage, "pyAttachStream", true, "pxAttachName", null, false, null, true);
Whereas the example I linked to does this:
String result=tools.sendFile(byteArray, pxAttachName, false, null, false );
See the Javadocs for 'sendFile' - that last argument ("aSendForDownload")governs how downloads are handled by browsers (its more of a 'hint' in my understanding - using the 'Content-Disposition' flag in HTTP headers).
The Javadocs are under 'Designer Studio | Engine API', then on the left click-through 'PublicAPI' - sendFile (there are several signatures for it) is listed under that.
