Using Sendgrid connector with Pega Platform

I'm researching using Sendgrid within our existing application, I found a marketplace component that provides a sendgrid connector for Customer Decision Hub / Pega marketing (Sendgrid Connector) however my application is not using either of those. We could of course, implement the Sendgrid APIs manually but I'm wondering if it would be possible to leverage parts of the marketplace component within our application to speed development. 

Has anyone attempted to do this or have any experience/recommendations on integrating with Sendgrid using the platform only?

@rwtaylor Hi, Greetings. I have used SendGrid APIs to send emails and have also implemented signed webhooks for status updates. I haven't used the component from marketplace though.
