SOAP vs REST XML calls in Pega

I am looking to understand the exact difference between the SOAP vs REST XML calls in Pega. Can there be a chances when SOAP is more performant to REST in Pega? And if yes then in which scenarios we should choose to go with SOAP vs REST and which is better interms of Security and Why?
