SOAP connector works fine but reports as error - why?

We have a situation where we are making a SOAP call to another system that is working perfectly, but PRPC is reporting that the SOAP service failed. We are unsure why this might be happening. The SOAP connector in question does not have any response information configured as it is fire-and-forget. Could this be the issue?
