Query on importing PRPC 5.5 SP1 rules into Pega 7.1.8
Hi Team,
This question is from a customer.
They have recently upgraded one of the non-prod environments from PRPC 5.5 SP1 to Pega 7.1.8 on WebSphere and MS SQL. Meanwhile, they are going to have two major releases into production which is on 5.5. They would like to have the two releases of PRPC 5.5 to be deployed into Pega 7.1.8 environment. Please let us know the impact it's going to have.
We assume there should be backward compatibility of those rules when we import them in Pega 7.1.8 and should work normally as they were working earlier in 5.5? Can we confirm this?
I'm aware that this query sounds generic, but sharing somebody's expertise/thoughts might be helpful in here.

You are right. The keyword here is 'should work' but customer should always test thoroughly before moving to rules to production.

I will second what Kevin said. It "should work", but there was something like 5 years of development/product evolution between PRPC 5.5sp1 and Pega 7.1.8. I know the upgrade from 5.x to 6.x wasn't always completely smooth and there were steps that needed to be taken to get some rules to work. If they are moving a large number of rules, they may run into some of that. For example, I believe the upgrade guide had an activity that needed to be run to address issues with flow actions that didn't use a section rule to contain the UI elements (valid in 5.x, not in 6.x or later). If they don't run that, they may have problems. There are probably other potential pitfalls that I'm not thinking of. So yeah, for the most part, things should work, but any extra steps one would need when upgrading from 5.5 to 7.1 would probably still need to be followed after the move.

Thanks Kevin, Mike and Harish. We shall update once we test the applications after performing the above step i.e.., importing 5.5 rules in Pega 7.
