Portals & Edit using channels and interfaces landing page

With pyCaseWorker and/or pyCaseManager7 portal rule form open, the option to Edit using channels and interfaces landing page is presented. If the option to do so is selected, it is not clear how any edits are really available.

I see reference to Channels and Interfaces indicating it is only relevant when using Pega Intelligent Virtual Assistant. For some reason this doesn't seem right.

The doubt is over relevance of the Edit using channels and interfaces landing page option on the portal rule form for the two portals mentioned.

I think "Channels and Interfaces" are referred so that we can configure the portal options at the high level directly instead of converting it to composite mode. PFB screenshot for options for Case Manager portal customization in Channels and Interfaces.
