Pega Update 7.4 from 7.1.5

Hi

Our application is in 7.1.5 in VM based environment. We need to update it to Version 7.4 under app engine ( Containerization with Docker that generates dynamic nodes). What needs to be done. Will including 7.4 war files in Docker work? Or I need to take care of other things?

I saw in many posts that versions prior to 7 needs upgrade and versions after 7 needs update. That's not true?

 

Differences between updates and upgrades
An update is a new distribution image that contains cumulative fixes and enhancements to the product
since Pega 7.0; it is not a full product release. In contrast, upgrades are full product releases. If you need
to move from any version prior to Pega 7.0, you must upgrade. To move from any Pega 7.x version to the
most current release, you can either update or upgrade.

 

And why was Agile Studio suggested and why not Pega Platform https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/documents/pega-platform-74-upgrade-guide ?

Hi Shekhar,

For Update or Upgrade, we have to follow the guidelines in "Appendix C — Optional: Generating and applying DDL" Correct? Because we will not be given write access by the DBA. Will it migrate our existing application rules too? If yes, what exactly is the difference between Update and Upgrade??

Yes you are right.Version prior to 7 needs upgrade and versions after 7 needs update
