Pega 8.3 Node Types
For an 8.3 environment, what is the consequence of not having any Stream node set up?
In our current set up for both Development and Production, here are the node types that we have:
- WebUser
- Search
- BIX
- BackgroundProcessing
- Batch
According to help:
Stream node type is used for queue processing.
Questions:
- Is it mandatory that we have at least one stream node?
- What happens to a Prod environment if there is no Stream node?
- What happens to a dev environment if there is no Stream node (i.e., not even having a Universal Node)?

1a. Yes it’s mandatory to have at least one stream node on 8.x versions.
2a. To start with, the OOTB Queue processors will fail and elastic search won’t function.
3a. Same as above. They won’t function in Dev. BackgroundProcessing Or Universal is required for agents to run.
In conjunction with above responses, note that by NOT setting any nodeType like Stream or Universal, Pega automatically assigns 4 node types Webuser, Backgroundprocessing, Stream,Search to avoid breaking functionalities.
