Opening a File using a native application
Hi All,
We have a requirement where in file attached to the case attachements when clicked should be opened using the Native application.
Lets say I have 3 files attached to the case, i.e., File1.pdf, File2.doc and File3.ppt.
when the user clicks on "File1.pdf", the file should be opened using the Adobe reader application, instead of opening in a browser window. similarly when clicked on File2.doc, it should be opened using MS word application.
Can you suggest how to proceed.

Check on your own computer (the one from where you are clicking on the attachment) and look at two settings categories:
- Your download settings for the browser, to see whether it attempts to open downloaded files or merely save them.
- The default app associated with each of the file extensions, which in your case are pdf, doc, and ppt.

The same has been configured and had been shared with the customer as well. with the change is the browser setting, documents are downloaded and then user has to select the file from the download folder and open the file.
But the customer do not want to do that, instead he wants the file directly opened in the native application, like the way the documents are opened from share point site for editing the file.
Not sure on how to achieve, is that we have to write an ActiveX controls and plug into the browser.
