So it actually depends on your node s capacity. 

So suppose your node can hold two app server and you have lots of users using the application, then you can have two app server and a load balance to distribute load on each node.
Now you can run the agents on app nodes as well, but with new Pega its better to create a different Util node. 

All the agents and listener should be running on the Util node as best practice.

So from my point of view have separate app nodes and util nodes, so that your bulk jobs don't affect the users.

Sizing should be taken into consideration, for example

- how many web-users will use this application ( this will help in tuning heap, system resources)

- how many agents/batches would run together.

- set up pre-prod/simulate load test before putting application in live
