Not able to open .bat file in Mac

Hi

I have downloaded the Pega 8.3 personal edition in my Mac. This is the first time trying to install a PE in Mac. I have the .bat file. When i double click on it, it looks for application to open with. Please suggest how to do it. I tried, the Utilities-Terminal, but it opens a kind of text file which do not allow me to install. Please help me out.
