Expected behavior of two browser tabs open in V7?

In Pega7, the Multiple Window Warning has been retired. So it's possible to open up multiple windows in a single session to the same server. But strange behavior results -- whenever you switch focus to one tab, the screen refreshes. Is that the intended behavior?
I'm still seeing this in v7.1.7. It's not like I mean to have 2 browser tabs open at the same time, but when I do (e.g., I click a link, open it again), I get this behavior, which regularly frustrates me.

In Pega 7 platform, when a duplicate window is focused, a portal refresh is triggered to maintain the current state of the session. This ensures that multiple tabs or windows never lead to a situation where a tab displays stale data, while eliminating user interaction with the extra step of the warning window.

I cannot speak to the intended design, but it certainly appears that way. I also no longer get the multiple window warning, and instead my tab will refresh to keep it in sync with the other tab.

Thanks. Next question... why? How can I disable this? What is the purpose?
If Pega can detect that there's another window open, then it should just show me a warning in the banner, and highlight any tabs that might be open in both. Refreshing really slows my browser down.

This is a sledgehammer where a scalpel is needed. Generally I would prefer to turn this off.
This should communicate only the updates for the open forms -- and only refresh those forms on the target browser window.
