Does Pega support having multiple applications open at the same time?
We have developed 2 seperate applications sitting in seperate layers and Access Groups but having a common foundation.
We have been asked whether it is supported for the user to have both applications open in the same session (ie. by duplicating the browser tab)? We understand the user will have to select the active application in their browser tab.

@Buddhika.Hanwella for the same browser with new session it might be possible ,but not suggestable to use ,as it might get locking issues and u can explore Remote application concept in pega. Posted one ref link below.

@Buddhika.Hanwella In Pega 8.4 onwards there is a feature url alias.
When you open the application definition there is something called application url alias which you can explore.
I am not completely sure if this can help or not but you might want to check this feature to know how exactly it is working behind the scene. If different alias name are creating different sessions then this will help you in achieving your requirement.

@VikashK99the alias didn't create a new session for each logged in user.
I have the same requirement to run mutiple application like HR app, Finance App, Admin App in one instance. We don't want to maintain a lot of instances. And the user want to keep two browser tabs open for two applications. And this seems to be impossible in pega in the same instance because the two browser shares one user session.

From Dev studio every time we launch portal, it opens in a window in browser. You can try leverage the same implementation adding it to the user portal. Instead of switch portal, they should be able to launch a new one, just like developers.
once it is done, you can add different portals for different features.
