Displaying a pagelist property marked as reference property

I have a pagelist property that is marked for reference properties. I have used property-ref to append each page to the pagelist. It shows correctly in clipboard but when I attempt to display this in a repeating dynamic layout it does not render. However if the context of a section embed is set to a specific page on the pagelist, pagelistref(1), the section loads fine. It is only failing when referenced in a repeating dynamic layout. Is there a way to get this to display for the repeating dynamic layout as well?

It's a little hard to visualize all of this. Can you attach screenshots of the working and non-working setups that you described?
