Difference between Theme-Cosmos and Theme-Clarity

Hi,

I am trying to understand more about design systems in Pega. Design system is more than a skin and it is right now shipped as an application within Pega. We have two design systems. 1) UI-Kit and 2) Cosmos. We are starting our development on 8.4 and have few questions on this.

  1. Can we still continue to use UI-Kit before we get familiar with Cosmos. Is it a good option to change from UI-KIT to Cosmos later? 
  2. Does UI-Kit be deprecated in the coming releases? 
  3. I have seen one more application named Theme-Clarity. Is it a new design system?
  4. Why do we have two design systems (Cosmos and UI-Kit). Is it support to existing upgrades?
  5. What is the best design system to use?

Yes - but moving to Cosmos is recommended, especially if you are building new apps - for more details - https://design.pega.com/getting-started-design-system - review chapter 'Migrating your Pega application'

UI-kit will be deprecated at some point, right now it is in maintenance mode only - There is not going to be new features added in UI-kit after Pega 8.4 - UI-Kit 15.0 is the latest major release of UI-Kit - only fixes for specific issues will be added in ui-kit 145.

Clarity is used for Web Mashup when you want to expose existing case type through Web Self Service (WSS) and need a more consumer grade skin / look and feel and don't need the full portal experience.
