Difference between pxRunSingleCaseDDF vs DataFlow-Execute

What is the difference between "call Data-Decision-DDF-RunOptions.pxRunSingleCaseDDF" and using method "DataFlow-Execute". using both way I can execute a Data Flow. is there any difference between those, or suggestion when to use which one?

Note that as of 7.4 we also have a dedicated shape in the process flow to execute a single decision. This is showcased in DMSample, see e.g. the Offer Recommendation flow for Customer Desk.
