Difference between Field Group and Data reference in PEGA. What is the use of Field group?
After trying some hands -on to find the difference between Field group and Data reference, i found that:
On including Field group while configuring the view in case, it will allow you to enter manually all the data for all properties that are part of that Field group. But it does not save the field group as new record within respective data type.
Whereas,
On including data reference, it allows you to search record (on the basis of one of it's properties) from within existing records of respective data type. Here as we know that it is a reference to the existing data, so no scope of saving it.
My query is:
In case of Field group, as we have to manually enter values of all the properties associated with the field group data type , so what is the use of field group in PEGA ( as it does not save these values considering it new record of the data type)?
I hope my understanding of the difference quoted is correct. If yes, then please answer the asked query about use of adding a field group in PEGA.

When you configure UI in Pega 8, and select unique type as Field group or Data reference then Pega creates some property rule and section rules in background:
Field Group:
-'Page' type property is created without any 'Data Access' option.
Data reference:
-'Page' type property is created with 'refer to data page' as 'Data Access' option.[Please refer attachment for the same.]
-Section will be created and one property will be chosen to display the list of options from table which you can select[Please refer attachment for the same.]
This is the main difference between them.

Thanks for trying to elaborating it in terms of rules creations.
I would like to correct it as in terms of section creation: Section is created in both cases for Data reference as well as for Field group. With data reference, section is created in terms of search and for Field Group section is created in context of collect information.
Could you answer the query as well, about why would one use "Field Group"? As you have also mentioned that it has no access to data page and hence all the values are to be entered manually and they are not saved into the data page as new record.
So, when would the person be using Field Group in application?

My understanding is that a Pega Field Group is simply a container of a collection of logically related fields. e.g. "Address" Field Group may group several fields (House number, Street Number, Street Name, Town, Post Code, Country) together which describe the address in a more structured way than in e.g. a single mulit-line text field. So it doesn't hold the address but can hold fields which do. So when you want to add the high-level "Address" to a section, instead of adding each element of the address, just add the collection (group) of fields by referring to the Address Field Group.
Now if only I knew what is the difference between a Field Group and a Page Group :-(

I think a Field Group is a Single Page; so maybe a Page Group is a Group of Single Pages (a group of Field Groups??).
