I want to learn and understand significance, usage, design approach of using the Partition keys in different components of CDH/Marketing.

Thanks for sharing those links, but those are how to setup Partition Key in Stream type DataSet and using from DataFlow.
I am looking for more basic details like when and why we should use Partition Keys during Marketing Campaign, how the partition Key works internally, etc.

Purpose of partition key is to evenly distribute records in Customer table so that multiple agent instances can perform work in parallel.
When using partition key, segment tables will have 2 columns, customerid and partition_key (this changes from v7.1.3)
Say if we have set partitionkey to 2, customer_id's will be segregated/partitioned randomly across these 2 records(I believe the database like oracle maintains an internal table with these partition keys). This would increase the performance during read and right of the customer records. Example;
Customer_ID Partition_Key
1 1
2 2
3 1
4 2
Partitioning can be used when you are working with millions of customer records (you can also check the average_time taken from Run details with and without the Partition_Key for Segment and Batch classes). From v7.3.1, PM uses partition_key feature by default. and DSS will be provided to set the value for Partition_Key and this needs to be set as per your sizing needs.
