Custom table for attachments

Hi, we have 20-30 applications on same server. We want to create custom class Data-Work-Attach-File-AppA and want to map it to custom table so that we can fetch the attachments fastly for respective application.

Is there any problem in storing attachments in custom table instead of pc_data_workattach?

I think if you change the class then we won't be able to use the OOTB rules related to Attachments directly.
