Alternate option for Tickets

I read somewhere that tickets are deprecated, is there any alternate for it, which serves similar purpose.

Below is the help doc for Pega 8.3. The ticket is still there.

In Pega 7, OOTB activity "Obj-Set-Tickets" was deprecated. Another activity "SetTicket" replaced it. 

In terms of the alternate option for the Tickets, below pdn link suggests to use the wait shape.
