Pega 8.8 connection to MSK Cluster timeout

We are trying to connect from our development environment on Pega 8.8.3 to a MSK Cluster on Apache 3.6.0 but we are getting timeout error.

We have already created the role with access to the service MSK, the service account bind to the role on EKS and added the annotation to the EKS deployment.

Still we are getting timeout when trying to connect to any of the 2 brokers.

I have found below quote and could not fully understand what it implies.

Does Pega support Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK)?

Pega Platform can connect to any external Kafka with support for configuration settings that is generic across all types of Kafka deployments (MSK, Confluent, Local Kafka, and so on). However, Pega does not support vendor-specific security features (such as IAM roles).
