Optimize Schema Wizard to create index

An index can be created for a column in dev environment via Optimize Schema wizard. Is it recommended to use the Optimize Schema Wizard in other environments like in pre prod, and prod environments?

The main purpose of schema optimization is to improve performance. Hence i think it is ok to use it in higher environment.

However , it is always recommended to consult your Project LSA and DBA once before carry out such operation in Prod.
