Migrating a simplistic app from UI-Kit to Theme-Cosmos in Pega Infinity traditional UI architecture
Pega Infinity's powerful, tried and true current and traditional UI architecture -- based on Section rules, Skin rules, Dynamic Layouts, etc -- includes two "themes" for employee-facing enterprise applications: UI-Kit and Theme Cosmos.
The attached article provides guidance for migrating simplistic applications built with this architecture from the UI-Kit theme (ui-kit ruleset and built-on) to the Cosmos theme (Theme Cosmos ruleset and built-on).
Should you follow the instructions in this document? Probably not.
While Pega Infinity's current UI architecture and themes will be used for years to come, Pega 8.7 includes Cosmos React, built with new front-end architecture based on ReactJS and a client-side orchestration engine -- the fastest UI engine we've ever built. Cosmos React also introduces a different paradigm of application development aimed to dramatically decrease time to value; increase consistency; enforce UI best practices, including accessibility; and enable seamless upgrades.
In most cases, instead of following migration guidance in this doc, customers with existing Infinity applications based on UI-Kit should instead begin exploring the benefits Cosmos React, it's paradigm of develpment, and it's underlying architecture. Then, customers should plan phased migration as additional migration guidance becomes available. Starting points include 2022 PegaWorld iNspire conference and this Pega 8.7 what's new video entitled "Faster time to value - User Experience"
Customers should understand that there is no urgency to migrate. Customers should migrate when it makes sense and based on needed capabilities.
