I'm not sure if this is your solution but you can use mapped property on section - for example, you can drag & drop mapped property from application explorer to section to display information of external database.

You can load your database information using report definition, data page etc.

Simplest way is to associate your page/page list property to datapage to show information.

Okay so we can load the data from the external database by using a data page, but our current hang-up is configuring the data source.   Any advice on doing that?

Assuming JDBC setting is completed and you have mapped database table columns and properties.

One of the way is configure data page with lookup as data source to load one record by providing key data via parameter.

Other one is to configure report definition at mapped data class and make it data source of data page.

Once you creaed data page, you can configure, for example, page property to copy/reference lookup data page, and/or page list property to copy/reference datapage soureced report definition.
