Why the max fize size is limited to 2GB in PRPC
Hi
The max size of a file which can be uploaded using the new Import feature (in data explorer) in 7.2.1 is 2 GB.. When asked about the limitation i was told that the limitation is from the prpc engine itself..
Can anyone provide some insight into why we cannot upload more than 2GB.. I just want to understand the technical limitations in going beyond 2GB..
Has it got anything to do with the underlying databases, deployed server and configurations?

I am not sure what is the exact reason behind imposing such limitation. but one possible cause could be is avoiding performance issues. The more the size, greater the chance that your systems starts giving performance issue and encounter timeout exception.
Have you checked whether you can use the Dynamic System Settings to increase the upload size limit ? I think the DSS Pega-Engine •prconfig/initialization/maximumfileuploadsizemb/default should ideally help users to increase upload limit.

One possible reason for the 2 GB limit is that in the past some OSes and applications limited the JVM to 2 GB max heap size. One example of this is 32 bit installations of webSphere had this limit (see Why can I not set a maximum heap setting (-Xmx) over 2GB on a WebSphere 32 bit install? - dWAnswers).
