When we need to use Use SSL check box in Email account?

When we need to use Use SSL check box in Email account, Please explain the use of SSL and when we need to use.

Port - Enter an SMTP server port number for outgoing email connections. The default options are:

  • 25 (Unsecured)
  • 587 (STARTTLS)
  • 465 (SMTPS)
  • Use SMTPS - Enable only if the email service requires an SMTPS connection. Do not enable if the channel is to be secured by STARTTLS.

Here When we using the port 465 on the time only need to use for SSL check Box??? not required for other ???
