What is "tools" in pega?
Hi Friends,
I have seen that this key word is used at many places in pega. I wanted to know what it is. Can anyone please help me with it.

If you are familiar with JavaScript then you would be familiar with the term "implicit variable". Implicit variables in JS include document, window, ans navigator, i.e.,objects that can be assumed to exist when writing code for a browser's object model (BOM) - see http://itwebtutorials.mga.edu/js/chp1/browser-object-model.aspx
When coding JS in Pega, there would be an implicit variable named "tools".
There is also an implicit variable named "tools" when coding server-side java in Pega such as Functions or java steps within Activities.
The server-side "tools" object implements an interface named "PublicAPI". Launch the "Engine API" from Designer Studio (7) / Dev Studio (8) then search for "PublicAPI".
In java steps you often see statements such as tools.findPage("page") or tools.getStepPage().
The tools implicit variable provides a way to gain access to other java interfaces such as ClipboardPage and ClipboardProperty.

In general, tools refers to the features available in Pega Platform that help you build and manage applications. For example, the UI Inspector is referred to as a tool that allows developers and designers to easily review the structure of the UI rules and elements in their application.
