What are the use cases of using commit in applications explicitly

What are the use cases of using commit in applications explicitly as if we do obj-save if PRPC creates save point, commits to db in the bulk commit done on submit/ finish assignment

There may be requirement where it is required to save changes to DB before finish Assignment happens.

For example if you enter few values for properties and other few you intend to do later and don't want to loose previous changes.
