Hi SanB4461
I have helped other students before who faced similar issues and the reason turned out to be one of the three issues. I have outlined them here: Unable to launch url for Pega Marketing Enablement 7.13 ML9 exercise system after starting VM
All Pega Marketing and Decisioning courses use VirtualBOX. You should be good to go once you have fixed the virtualization.
By the way, for the benefit of the rest of the community, can you please share the exact steps you followed earlier, which prevented showing the virtualization error? This is also mentioned in the Exercise System setup PDF.

Hi
Thanks for your query. Can you please confirm that you have followed all the steps in the exercise system guide: http://pegasystems2.http.internapcdn.net/pegasystems2/exercise_guides/PA_Virtual_Machine_Quick_Start_Guide_12_14_15.pdf (especially setting up the Bonjour service)?

I had the same issue and can confirm that it has been resolved by installing Bonjour as instructed in the guide linked by deshg.

Hello,
As per your settings on DHCP Server screenshot, Lower Address Bound starts at Proprietary information hidden. In the Adapter tab, server address is set as Proprietary information hidden, can you please try to change IPv4 address to Proprietary information hidden05 for instance?
Also, in the network config try to change Promiscuous Mode to 'Deny'
Please try again and let us know if it works.
Regards,
Andre

Hi - I changed the adapter and network setup as per your suggestion ( PFA). However it's still the same unfortunately. The url is coming as http://prpc.local:8080 which is not working and when i log into using architect/password i am seeing a device eth0 does not exist.

Thanks Andre, your suggestion to change the IPv4 range above Lower Address Bound worked for me..

Hi SanB4461
Can you please try the following steps (basically retrace all the steps plus one important additional step):
1) Open the VirtualBox, and delete the virtual machine entry (ensure you have the original zip file downloaded from Pega Academy so you can uncompress and re-add it later)
2) Access the VirtualBox -> Preferences -> Network.
3) Delete the Host-only adapter. Add it again. Ensure that the IP addresses are as mentioned in the PDF document that I referenced above (also verify the DHCP server tab).
4) Uncompress the zip file and add the virtual machine back.
5) Start the virtual machine.
6) Log-in as architect/password.
7) Run the following commands (when asked for password, type password):
sudo rm -rf /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
sudo reboot
8) Wait for the VM to reboot. Then try to access http://prpc.local:8080
Let me know how it goes.

Hi- After completing Step # 5 i amgetting this exception now while trying to start the instance.
AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS) (VERR_SVM_DISABLED).
This i have never faced before and should not be there in first place as my collegue is using virtualbox without changing any bios level settings.

SanB4461,
VT-x/AMD-v is not related to using either VirtualBox or VMware.
VT-x/AMD-v is required to run any 64bit guest, or any guest which uses multiple cores.

In addition, before changing BIOS settings, you could try to perform the steps below:
- Select VM > Settings > System > Processor tab > Extended Features: Enable PAE/NX
If the checkbox is not selected, select that and try to start the VM.
If the checkbox is already selected, unmark that, try to start the VM and you will get an error. After that, go back to these settings, select the checkbox again and try to start the VM.
It worked for me, if it doesn't work please follow all the instructions mentioned by Guru in the previous message and share the steps to help those who possible will face the same situation.

Andre,
There is no need to make any changes to the Exercise System configuration.
All issues students encounter are related to the installation of VirtualBox and Bonjour. Typically students first try to install VirtualBox without reading the Exercise Setup Guide and run into issues. The detailed steps required to setup the exercise system are described in the Exercise Setup Guide.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for your inputs. Apologies for that but actually I just sent those steps because same issue happened with a few students (including me) and a workaround was needed since in our corporative environment access to BIOS settings is restricted and not allowed due to local IT policies, so we were not able to follow the setup guide. In order to speed up the process and get the exercise environment up and running I found the mentioned workaround task and it works.

Andre,
That's great feedback, thanks a lot for the clarification that BIOS access is restricted due to local IT policies in your corporate environment.
In these situations my recommendation is to raise an IT Helpdesk ticket. They will understand why hardware virtualization extensions need to be enabled in the BIOS.
