Use of mixed operating systems for a single instance of Pega.
Our current application uses 10 WebSphere application servers on Windows Server. Three of those are stream servers running embedded Kafka. We know of a couple of issues with this configuration. We do plan on moving to external Kafka at some point though that may not happen until 2025. We have also been told running Kafka on Windows Server is problematic.
We are considering moving our stream servers to WebSphere running on Linux. Does Pega support a single instance of an application running a mix of Windows and Linux Servers?

Keep in mind that with Infinity, none of websphere implementation is supported (Linux or Windows)
You could consider moving Kafka to other servers but I would let the stream node where they are.
Externalizing kafka is to set it up out of your PEGA implementation and here, you keep it inside PEGA for now but on different OS.
As soon as you're able to move your implementation of stream servers to websphere/linux, then why not moving all your PEGA nodes to the same set up?
Actually I'm wondering whether the issue wouldn't be more at websphere and your application cluster level than PEGA & 2 OS.
If it's not defined/seen as a complete cluster (and parameters won't be the same I think) then your node communication might be an issue. In case it seems to work, any troubleshooting would yet be tricky with such setup.

Due to issues outside of our control, we cannot switch to external Kafka or move to the cloud at this time. The application needs to interact with a lot of files which are stored on the servers. If we move everything from Windows to Linux, we have a lot of code changes to make both within our app and external jobs. We were thinking if we could just move the stream server to Linux, we could mitigate the Kafka issues on Windows Server while not making a ton of other changes.
I figure it is a long-shot that a mixed OS environment is OK, but need to understand more.
We understand that WebSphere deployments and embedded Kafka are deprecated but we are unable to deal with that at this time.
