System Architect Essentials I (7.1) PVS exercise system does not run Using VMware Workstation Player
System Architect Essentials I (7.1) PVS exercise system does not run Using VMware Workstation Player. The .ova file is imported and played succesfully on VMware Workstation Player and shows the message "Pega 7 Exercise VM started on ......" but the URL to enter into the Pega 7 shows only http://:9080.
I tried with the url http:// Proprietary information hidden:9080 after finding the ip using ifconfig command on the VMware Workstation Player window.but cannot be accessed.
When I shut down the VMware Workstation Player through "Shutdown guest" option I noticed that "PostgreSQL" DB is shutting down message. Please help.

Hi Dhritman,
I think I got your problem. its because of no IP assigned to eth0 of your VM.This you can verify by typing the command "ip addr show eth0".
Please follow the below steps.
Step 1: In VMWare Player's main window, go to the settings tab.
Step 2: In the settings window, click on "Network Adapter" and among the options on the right, select "Host-only: a private network shared with the host". Please find the screenshot below :

Step 3: click ok.
Step 4: Boot your virtual machine.
Step 5: If you have access to the linux command prompt, assign the ip address Proprietary information hidden like this (if you have root access):
ifconfig eth0 Proprietary information hidden netmask Proprietary information hidden
or Step 5b: sudo ifconfig eth0 Proprietary information hidden netmask Proprietary information hidden
(if you don't have root access).
Please not that you can use any other address also but in the format <192.168.x.x>
Step 6: open the start menu and launch "Command Prompt". You find it in All Programs -> Accessories.
Step 7: Inside the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and press enter. One of the lines should display something like this:
for me its like below:
Step 8: With the VM running, switch back to Windows and from the command prompt you opened in Step 6, type ping Proprietary information hidden
You should get an output pretty much like this(for me its like):
And most probably now you will be able to hit the URL.
Hope this will help you.

Hi Dhritman,
Supporting Ashutosh , please try with Oracle VM Virtual Box because now a days Pega Acdemy VM is compatible with Oracle VM. Even I faced the same issue when not using Oracle VM.
Also have you tried with "localhost" or "prpc.local "instead of ip adress.
Thankyou

Hi Dhritman,
I don't think it will hamper any thing. You can keep both VM and use accordingly.
Even I am using 2 both VMs in my system.
Thankyou

It is just two hypervisors (one from VMWare and other from Oracle) you will be running. So there is no harm.
For the prpc.local / localhost / ip address related question... as long as you have the local admin access and have access to change the hosts file entry, you can make entry for the prpc.local pointing to the IP picked up by the VM you are running, you will be able to access the Pega Server just by using the prpc.local. However, at times, if you are running multiple hypervisors hosting different guest OS, they may pick the IP mapped to prpc.local on the hosts file. So do not get bogged if one is working and other not. When you get into such problem, take a look at the hosts file, if you have played with it.

Hi Abhishek,
The guide you sent said to extract the downloaded archive using 7 zip,,but for 7.1 Leavaraging Pega/System Architect Essential 1+2 for Pega 7.1,pls note 7.1, offers download exercise system /VM in .OVA file extension.Does it require to extract using 7zip or I just import it using Oracle VM Virtual Box and click the play button?

As per I know , it should be a zipped file which you would have downloaded from the Pega Academy. You need to unzip that as per instruction in the guide.

Hi Dhritman, from the screenshot attached , it seems that you are not entering the credentials for the prpc credentials. If not Please try with the following credentials:
prpc login: "architect"
password: "password"
And then try hitting the URL. Even try with http://:9080 along with http://localhost:9080 or http://prpc.local:9080 or http://<ip>:9080
You can also check with the 8080 port.
Please let me know on the further concerns.

I think the media which you have downloaded is corrupt.
Otherwise ideal login screen is like below with the "ip address for eth0" and its not there in yours :
Have you tried with agin downloading the image and then starting the VM.
