Search only works with old:somestring

Folks, 

The search only works with old:somestring.     From System/Settings/Search I tried to Re-index rules aand got the error  "Rule Index File Unavailable or Corrupted".    Please advise.

The search index is corrupted. You will need to physically remove the folder containing the search index and then re-index it. The location of the search index can be found in the System > Settings > Search. Stop Tomcat and delete the folder for the search index. Restart Tomcat and then re-index.
