Search: lot of threads PegaRULES-Search[generic]
Hi,
We have an issue about Search function creating a lot of threads under Pega 7.1.8 on JBoss.
We have stopped the index agents but still more and more of these theads are created until they reached a system limit of created threads. Here what we can see in the SMA:
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[generic][T#98] 5 true true false
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[generic][T#99] 5 true true false
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[generic][T#9] 5 true true false
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[index][T#1] 5 true true false
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[management][T#1] 5 true true false
ServerService ThreadGroup PegaRULES-Search[management][T#2]
...
Also I can see 3 Search categories : generic / index / management. It is the generic which is cretaing a lot of threads.
Do you know when and for what these threads are created ? Why threds are not reused (within thread pools) ?
How we can control the number of parallel threads and their pool size ?

Search does require a lot of threads but it might also be a symptom of threads not able to reach the index host node (or multiple nodes) and vice versa. This could be because of stale entries in pr_sys_statusnodes table or network issues or incorrect setting of file handles on a *nix box.
The configuration of Elastic Search thread pools and their size is not exposed through Pega 7 platform. This is internally controlled by the platform.
