Running Simulations in 'Assessing the Impact of a New Product Offer'
In the exercise for the Assessing the Impact of a New Product Offer , the method for running a simulation seems convoluted. The directions state:
a) Click NEW to create a new simulation.
c. Select baseline data flow.
d. Click done.
e. Click on baseline to open the data flow.
f. Click on Actions->Run.
g. Click on Start to execute this data flow.
What is the reason for steps d-f ? When a new simulation is created and opened the option to start the data flow exists(see the 'Start' button top right of attached screenshot) without needing to directly open the data flow and click Actions->Start . Does the Start button differ from the stated method of running the Data Flow?

You are absolutely right. However, due to the product design of that version we recommend you to take the steps as described.
Technically speaking, for the Baseline, it may work as you describe. However for the second step, the simulation AFTER you make a strategy change, it will only work if you execute via the Run option as described.
