Restrict Maximum Tabs using Dynamic Container
We are using Pega 7.1.9 with CS 7.1.4 and are displaying the customer interactions in Tabs using the Dynamic Container.
We have utilizing the Multi Document mode with the max documents set to 3. The Problem here is when we set the max documents to 3, at any given point of time 3 tabs are getting launched and Pega is not alerting the user that the maximum document has reached. Also, Pega automatically replaces the third tab automatically when we try to launch the 3rd interaction tab.
There must be an OOTB way of achieving the same functionality, but this is not working as expected.
I have already gone through the below posts where it has been suggested via using a Tab Group and then Dynamic Container, however thats not the case with our implementation. We have dragged a Dynamic Container in a section and then we have included a Harness in the Dynamic Container with Max Documents being set to 3. If the user launches 3 tabs i.e. Home, Tab 1, Tab 2 and then try to click on the button/Link/Grid, it should display a alert message stating "You have reached maximum number of documents" and the processing should halt.

The issue is applicable when using the Pega 7.1.9 with CS 7.1.4
The SR mentioned in the above post has been reopened and has been assigned to Product Engineer for the the fix.
SR-A87112 will be used for analyzing and fixing the issue.

Yes I tried changing the Dynamic Container settings to use Other Thread in the "Thread" drop down, still the behavior doesn;t change.

This is supposed to work the way you are expecting. We are using similar limitation in tab in Pega7.1.7, and it is working fine. I think you should go with a SR.

Thanks Saikat for your response. I have raised an SR with Pegasystems,SR-A87112, but they responded back to me stating that this is implementation approach that you are seeking a solution on and hence raise it as a post on Pega-Mesh rather than raising an SR.
"This request falls outside the scope of work supported by GCS. Questions about how to design, develop, or debug custom applications and similar types of questions are best addressed by posing a question to the Product Support Community."

We encourage everyone to help themselves with all the existent knowledge and self-service avenues available on PDN. But if it is identified as a product bug then it is a good idea to raise an SR.
I had a look into the SR you mentioned and issue description looked like it was a request for a new mecahnism/customization/new design approach. The engineer must have thought that you would be getting faster responses on our community and that could the reason behind the redirection (I'm supposing a lot here!). However, please go ahead and Reopen the SR to take it forward with a new approach arming yourself with all the responses you received here!

Putin, there is an hotfix given on CPM 714 or CPM 713 to address this. CPM 714 GA uses Tabless Dynamic Container to host interacitons and service cases and as it is Tabless Dynamic Container it automatically purges last used documents and provides room for new documents. You will not be promoted when max count is reached - This bheavior is working as designed and expected.
There are few customers expecting what you are expecting, there is an hotfix and you can approach customer support.
Adding to your requirement - lets say if you configure it to be 3, at any point of time in end user portal you can only have 3 documents opened. docuemnt can be Harness(Home Harness), Interaction or service case. With this you can configure the max limit or document accordingly. Hotfix will help you get alert when the max document count is reached.
