Private Edit of pxButton control affecting all users' application

On my project, I was conducting a private edit on the pxButton control which applies to Peg-Gadgets:08-01-01. Since it's a final rule, I did not think any of my changes could have any effect on other users' views on the application.
After I discarded the rule, some of the buttons default to just say 'Button' (instead of Submit or Cancel or any other designated text), and the button color is wrong.
I tried to private edit again to save the pxButton control back to how it was originally, but that did not fix the issue. There are multiple versions of the app in the platform, and it only seems to be affecting one of the applications (the one I was in when I made the private edit).
Has anyone seen anything like this before? If you have any idea how I could go back and fix this please let me know.

@AidanD23 We tried refreshing the skin which temporarily solved the issue. All buttons within the User Portal UI are fine. Now we are seeing the issue on the back end. Randonmly when a rule gets checked out, the buttons at the top of the screen will get messed up and show 'Button' for the text instead of Save, Check In, Discard, ect.
When this happens, the gear icon with the pega tools also get's messed up. If anyone has seen anything like this before please let me know !
