Populate exposed columns in Production

Suggest the best way of populating newly exposed columns (in work table) for the inflight/existing work objects in Production. We are using PEGA 7.1.7 product.

Saving a work or data instance will populate the newly exposed columns. What I've done before is write an activty that loops through the instances of a concrete class and does an obj-save for each one. I write it in dev, push the activity to test, test running the activity in test, and push and run in prod.
