Hi,
It is a Light-weight simple UI container to render a harness/case which Show multiple harnesses in a single document without the need of heavy-weight IFRAME elements.
We can say that it is a sort of light-weight version of the current Dynamic Container (DC). (More faster then DC).

By using AjaxContainer ,in a same document multiple harness can co-exist running independent of each otherand it can be configured in a section or in a dynamic layout .

Could you please explain how we can achieve the same functionality ( open multiple documents as tabbed) using ajax container since tab group has been depricated?

The AJAX container is a new type of dynamic container for documents such as work items, cases, and harnesses.
AJAX container place up to three containers within a harness and directly add into a section and also add as child of a dynamic container and also refresh only the content in the container.
Within a multidocument container, we can display up to 16 documents. Set the tabbed view to make the navigation between the documents easier.
To use tab navigation between multiple documents, select the Show as tabs check box.
