DCO is a way of working that helps to bring business and IT together. It helps teams collaborate effectively; to visually capture ideas, so that everyone is having the right conversation, and puts the application you are configuring at the center of that conversation.

The key to DCO is getting close to the application, so that the business can see what the end product will look like. Then they can provide much higher quality feedback, because they have a much better idea of what it is needed to make the application sing.

DCO stands for Directly Capture Objectives. It is a discipline and a way of working that forms a continuous cycle of collaboration, iteration, and validation. DCO encourages alignment between stakeholders and drives high-quality engagement between business and IT. It is used to capture outcomes, design screens, workflows, and feedback, and it reduces misunderstandings and minimizes the risk of discovering business or functionality gaps too late.

DCO also increases the overall pace of delivery by involving all key players from the start. With DCO, there is no need to create time-consuming requirements documentation. Instead, all the information necessary to build an application is captured inside Pega Platform, from business outcomes to technical components, and business requirements such as backlog, epics, and user stories. DCO is important as it facilitates collaboration between business and IT, early visualization, effort estimation, centralized data, and a centralized repository of linked artifacts.
