Opening an SAP client with context with a button
Hello.
So here at the client I'm currently working at we're implementing a process where some Assignments (and the flow actions they are allowing) basically consists in telling the assignee (s)he has to perform some action on a SAP system.
The action is not performed with the Flow Action (no data is actually captured and then transmitted to SAP through a connector or anything).
And it is a requested feature that, in addition to telling the assignee what action is to be performed in SAP, the flow action is providing a way (a button would be best) for the user to launch the SAP client (that is present on all users workstations) and passing some contextual information to position the SAP client on the right screen.
This is supposed to be done by opening a file with a specific .sap extension. This extension is associated to the SAP client and therefore opening it is launching the client, with the content of the file setting the context.
I'm a little bit puzzled here. I'm not sure how to do that.
I had this idea of using an Activity creating the content of the file and using a Connect File to create the file with the .sap extension.
But then the question is: how to open this file with a click of a button considering the file is created on the server (I guess) and is to be opened on the client.
And maybe someone has a better design...
I'm open to any and all suggestion.

Hi!
Create a new Rule-File-Binary instance rule in using your application ruleset and upload your .sap file. The Key to a Rule-File-Binary is:
AppName: webwb
(Label)FileName: <Your file name>
Extension: .sap
Using a binary file here so nothing touches the content.
Put a button on your UI and will run an activity in the popup window. Event is "Click" and Action is "Open URL In Window".
The activity you want to use is "Rule-File-Binary.downloadFile" and should be OTB. This takes an instance key of the file you want to download as a parameter.
To get this view the XML of your Rule-File-Binary instance record from the "Action" menu. Look for the "insKey" element, the value is your parameter to the activity.
It will look something like:
RULE-FILE-BINARY WEBWB <FILENAME>!SAP #<DATE String>

There is one more thing that I didn't mention first: the SAP file we are to open is to be generated on the fly using data mainly from a work object.
The idea is: at some point in the work object lifecycle, tthere is a need for the user to open SAP to perform some operations there. And in order to be able to quickly open SAP in the right contaxt, a SAP file must be generated (with the right contextual information hold mainly by the work object but also the operator ID) and then opened. this way the SAP file (which has the right extension to do so) is openng the SAP client on the user workstation and setting this SAP client in the right contaxt.
